History

2017/18 — The Beginning of Burngreave FC
The story of Burngreave United FC began during the 2017/18 season when the club, originally founded as Burngreave FC, entered the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior League Division Two. The club made an immediate statement in its debut campaign, winning the league title in dominant fashion. Burngreave finished the season with 65 points from 26 matches, scoring an incredible 119 goals while conceding only 48, earning promotion at the first attempt.

2018/19 — Back-to-Back Promotions
The club’s rise continued the following season as Burngreave FC secured a second consecutive promotion. Competing in Division One, the team once again lifted the league title, finishing with 62 points from 24 matches. The success earned the club promotion to the County Senior League Premier Division and established Burngreave as one of the fastest-rising clubs in local football.

2019–2023 — Rebrand to Sheffield Town FC
Following their first season in the Premier Division, the club entered a new era under Chairman Mohamed Al Maysari and rebranded as Sheffield Town FC. Although the club remained competitive, consistency at Premier Division level proved difficult, with Sheffield Town often finishing in mid-to-lower table positions during this period.
Throughout these years, from 2017/18 until 2022/23, the club played its home matches at Owler Lane in Fir Vale, which became the foundation for the club’s early development and growth.

2022/23 — A New Vision at Hard Lane
A major turning point arrived under manager Moussa Diouf, who would later become a director at the club. Sheffield Town FC relocated to Hard Lane in Kiveton Park, entering a ground-share agreement with Kiveton Miners Welfare FC. The move reflected the club’s growing ambition to progress towards Step 6 football and build a stronger long-term future.

2023 — Merger with Kiveton Miners Welfare
Kiveton Miners Welfare FC had itself been re-established in 2020 to revive the proud footballing tradition of the local coal mining community. However, planning objections prevented the installation of floodlights at Hard Lane, creating major obstacles to the club’s progression and long-term sustainability.
In June 2023, Sheffield Town FC merged with Kiveton Miners Welfare in a takeover led by Mohamed Al Maysari and Moussa Diouf. Significant investment was made into the Hard Lane facilities, but ongoing logistical challenges meant the club continued searching for a permanent home capable of supporting its ambitions.

2024/25 — A New Home at Steel City Stadium
The next chapter in the club’s journey came with a move to the Steel City Stadium at Olympic Legacy Park in Attercliffe. Equipped with a modern 3G playing surface and high-quality facilities, the stadium provided the ideal platform for the club’s future growth.
During the 2024/25 season, “The Miners” enjoyed their most successful campaign to date in the Central Midlands Alliance League North, finishing 10th with 42 points. The season marked a significant step forward for the club, highlighting the progress, stability, and ambition that continue to drive Burngreave United FC forward.
