Our Story
The Beginning

The story of Burngreave United Football Club began in 2017, when Burngreave FC entered the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior League Division Two with the aim of creating opportunities for talented local players and building a competitive senior football club.

Success was immediate.

In their inaugural 2017/18 campaign, Burngreave were crowned Division Two champions, collecting 65 points from 26 matches and scoring a remarkable 119 league goals. Promotion was secured at the first attempt, but the club's rapid rise was only beginning.

The following season brought another title. Burngreave won the 2018/19 Division One championship, securing back-to-back promotions and reaching the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior League Premier Division just two years after entering senior football.

The 2019/20 season marked the club's first campaign in the Premier Division and the beginning of a new phase in its development.

Evolution & Progress
Building the Club

In 2020, under Chairman Mohamed Al Maysari, the club adopted the Sheffield Town FC identity.

The following years saw the project evolve as greater emphasis was placed on establishing the structure, facilities and organisation required to compete higher up the non-league pyramid. Moussa Diouf, initially involved as manager and later as a director, became another important figure during this period alongside Al Maysari and the wider group working behind the scenes.

That work eventually helped take the club into the Central Midlands Alliance and Step 7 of the National League System, representing another significant advancement from its beginnings in County Senior League Division Two. There were challenges and changes along the way, but each stage contributed towards shaping the club that exists today.

Another important milestone was the move to Steel City Stadium at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park. The move brought the club back into Sheffield and provided a modern home with a high-quality playing surface and facilities suited to senior non-league football.

More than simply a venue for home fixtures, Steel City Stadium provided a base from which the club could develop its matchday identity, strengthen its structure and reconnect more closely with the communities it wanted to represent.

Following a 2024/25 campaign in which the club continued to establish itself in the Central Midlands Alliance, the summer of 2025 brought one of the most significant developments in its history.

The Return to Burngreave
A Renewed Identity

Ahead of the 2025/26 season, the decision was made to bring the Burngreave name back to the forefront of the club.

Burngreave United Football Club emerged as the next chapter in a journey that had begun eight years earlier.

The return represented far more than a change of name or badge. It was a renewed commitment to the community at the heart of the club and a recognition of where its identity and long-term future belonged.

Burngreave is one of Sheffield's most diverse and distinctive communities, and the club wanted to build an identity that reflected the people, cultures and backgrounds that make the area unique.

Under the stewardship of Chairman Mohamed Al Maysari and Director Moussa Diouf, supported by the committee, management team, players and volunteers, the club entered this new era with a clear purpose: to compete at the highest level possible while building something the community could be proud to call its own.

That purpose extends beyond results on a Saturday afternoon. Burngreave United seeks to provide opportunities for players from Sheffield and the surrounding areas, create pathways into senior football and bring together people from different backgrounds through the game.

Players, coaches, volunteers, supporters, sponsors, families and local organisations have all contributed to the journey.

Our Philosophy
One Club. One Community.

2025/26
A Season to Remember

Burngreave United's first season under its restored identity became one of the finest campaigns in the club's history.

After a challenging opening period, the team's fortunes changed dramatically. United produced a superb 17-match unbeaten run, climbing the Premier Division North table and establishing themselves among the division's leading sides.

On the footballing side, Saqr AlKhobani, Yehia Asad and Gabe Mozzini were among those who played important roles within the management and coaching team during the campaign, working alongside a committed group of players and staff.

The team developed an exciting attacking style and a resilience that became defining features of the season.

Burngreave eventually finished 3rd in the Central Midlands Alliance Premier Division North with 65 points – the club's highest-ever finish at Step 7.

The season was equally memorable in front of goal. United scored an outstanding 102 league goals, breaking the century mark and establishing themselves as one of the division's most prolific attacking sides.

Although the campaign ended without promotion, third place represented a new benchmark for the club and demonstrated Burngreave United's ability to compete towards the top of Step 7.

Just as importantly, the season strengthened the club's belief in what could be achieved in the years ahead.

The Next Chapter
2026/27

Burngreave United enters the 2026/27 season with high ambitions. The achievements of the previous campaign have raised standards and expectations throughout the club. A third-place finish, a 17-match unbeaten run and more than 100 league goals demonstrated the progress that had been made – but also provided motivation to go further.

The footballing structure continues to develop, with Saqr AlKhobani and Yehia Asad serving as Assistant Managers as the club prepares for another demanding Premier Division North campaign.

There is an understanding throughout Burngreave United that progress must continue to be earned. The standards established during 2025/26 must now be maintained and improved upon, both on and off the pitch.

Since 2017, the journey has already included two league championships, back-to-back promotions, progression to Step 7, a return to Sheffield, the restoration of the Burngreave identity and the club's highest league finish at its current level. Each chapter has helped shape the club Burngreave United is today.

The achievements of 2025/26 set a new benchmark, but they have also raised expectations. Burngreave United enters 2026/27 determined to build on that progress, challenge at the top of the division and continue writing the next chapter of its story.
